| There are many reasons people "become" punks: trend, which is so much talked about here, desire to get into some compeny and to go in line with "cool" people in the neighbourhood. It's understood that those people which become punks because they like the music and the phole philisophy and lifeatyle that's behind it are only real true punks. And it's the matter of time, a month, a year or whatever, the trend will vanish and those punks that did not try to copy anyone or follow the fashion will remain why all the other will convert into followers of other trend ;) |

| although hot topic is a "rocker" store...i think it's B.S. if u have to dress from head to toe in clothes from Hot Topic...yea, that store has some cute s.h.i.t. but isn't punk about being ur own person? wouldn't that include putting ur own stamp on ur punk clothing? in other words...beacause of main stream stores like hot topic, it has become easier for preps and posers to LOOK punk...i say retaliate and make ur own clothes...that way nobody can copy u. and if they do...well...then u can f***ing beat their brains out... |

Yeah I get a lot of stuff from Angryyoungandpoor.com (that site is mint)and occasionally from interpunk.
I hate hot topic with a passion so I will not rant and rave about it except to say that it has given rise to some new weird goth-punk-metallica fan-poser looking creation. |

| ack. people are creating a trend around what they think is "punk" and it's a bit pathetic. |

Ok... so I have been reading all these posts. In regards to fashion. The kids today are only in it for the fashion. I remember going to Black Flag, Germs etc... Back then people really just wore what ever. The only trendy thing back then was a nice pair of Doc Martins. I'm now probably pretty old compared to the people on this board and still love my punk music. I dress completely normal (have a career job) and still pop in my punk CD's on my drive home from work (i.e. 10 Foot Pole, Straight Face, Swinging Utters, Chuck, Propagandhi).
When punk is a part of your life... it's more about the music not the fashion. That is just my opinion. Yes... I had punky hair and wore kind of punky clothes... but it was more for fashion... not about the music when you are young. You really don't see this until you get older and look back at how lame the dress was.
Ok... so for kids today. It is kind of funny to see all these young kids wearing punk fashion from the late 70's. I guess the fashion side will come and go, but if you truely like punk music, you will like it forever regardless of your clothing, job or whatever.
