anyone play bass guitar?? what do you use?

i use a fender deluxe series p-bass special. i looooove that pick-up combo. it's sparkly red too!!! i also use a reverend rumblefish (they're lesserknown but absolutely amazing and not too expensive) and then i have my 1967 Gibson Les Paul Classic bass. amazing but i'm afraid to play out with it because i dont want to break it.

how about upright bass players? anyone????
i built my own upright so its not really anything...

I'm quite possibly the worst bass player ever...... Mine's the generic the place I take lessons (yeah yeah yeah, I know... don't even say it, it was part of the deal) it's a Slammer! by Hamer.... sparkly red also, too, coincidentally.

i wish my last name was gibson too. first of all, we could be "like sisters" and second... being named after a guitar comepany would just complete me.

21 posts and you're already a whore.

Yeah, I know people who say if you learn bass after the 6string its easier, but I'm not sure I would agree... I didn't go that route and can't play a lick on a 6string (too used to wide frets and spread strings) but I'm not sure I see how it would help any.

Especially if you use a pick on your 6 string.... since using a pick on a bass makes it sound ... I dunno, synthesized or metallic or uh.... something.

I've owned many basses but only have three. One is a cheap fretless by Hohner which isn't too good but decent for the price.

Another is my fretted P-bass which I bought in '77. That was my first bass but you can't beat a P-bass so I kept it and still use it.

My 3rd is a Schecter Studio 5--one of the Stiletto series. It's a fretless active 5-string. High quality at a ridiculously low price. Get 'em while they last, folks.

I play through a Hartke HA2000 combo (200W @ 4 ohms). It has a lot of power for a combo. You can turn it up about half way in my house and hear it down the street with perfect clarity.

I want a fretted 5-string and a better fretless 4-string than my Hohner. I might look at a Rick 4003 fretless. Had one once. There's this Yamaha fretted 5 with this strange fretboard that really intrigues me. So many choices, so little money.

Thanks for the info, that sounds like some great hardware, but what about Gibson? Gibson makes a good bass right?

I am not a 100% but I want to at least try it out before I make the total switch over to the bass.

I literally can't remember the last time I played a Gibson bass. Many moons ago. Don't remember what it was but apparently I wasn't impressed since I've never owned a Gibson bass--or a Gibson anything. I'm not really a Gibson guy so I'm not a very good source on whether Gibson makes anything good or not.

Fender makes a nice bass.

Hartke sells a bass starter kit. You get a Hartke bass guitar and amp for like $300 or something. I've never played the bass but it's supposed to be decent for a starter. Maybe you should give that a whirl before spending $600 on a bass and another $600 for an amp.
