|
|
| Does anybody have any constructive details about how I can start my own record label? I have my own band, our own studio and I know another band and I have a name for the label and I want to control everything. How do I start? Any info will be appreciated. Thanks. |

FTC - Federal Trade Commission. you might not need it if you plan to have a completely local label that will never cross state lines.
add .com to both of them, and their web sites come up. |

| well, DIY or not, everyone is subject to the same restrictions and registration. it's not like the government will help you, but you need to start there. |

Registration... that's, I think; what I really want to know about. Like I said I have a great name for a label, and real shitty band to put on it, so I want to make sure nobody can steal both, the name and my songs.
If that makes any difference, can somebody lead me down that path... it's dark and I'm scared.
Hey that reminds me of a joke:

"this child molester is taking this kid through the forest and the kid is going on and on about being scared of the trees and the darkness and all that, and he's crying and whinning so the child molester grabs him by the arm and shakes him and says 'Look!, you're scared? how do you think I feel? I gotta come back through here by me self!'"

Yeah i'm thinking of doin my own label too.
I think the easiest way to do it is to start of with a compilation. Just go on purevolume or myspace or whatever and keep searching for bands until you find 20 or so that youu like. Then e-mail them and ask them if they wanna do the comp. They send you the songs and you put them on to a CD. But if you wanna do it seriously your gonna have to get a few CDs pressed which is usually quite expensive - so you ask all the bands to chip in for the pressing costs but then you give them a bunch of free copies of the comp to sell for themselves, that way you cover costs, sell more copies of your compilation and none of the bands get * outta money! Then any money made from this can be used to make Eps, albums for bands etc.
Well thats what I plan for mine anyway - good luck with it.
oh and the copyright thing - when you have a copy of the CD you wanna sell post it to yourself and don't open the parcel - thins makes it copyrighted for some reason but i'm not quite sure how it works.
So yeah hope it goes well. |

i made my own label, no ftc, no fcc. music is uor birthright, if they want my music, let em have it, i dont give a flying ****, they obviously have heard of us if they get our music, right?
i got a recording studio, made one cd, copied it seventy-five times, handed em out, told them to copy it, and so on |
