For me it is a non-issue, but women continue to be attacked (both verbally and physically) for going in the pit.
What do you all think?
(It could help to also include what kinds of shows you go to most.) |

| I think: The only reason they are 'attacked' is because male sexist idiots think that girls can't be in rock - therefore, for some reason, they can't go into mosh pits. What the hell is all that about? I'm a girl, and I go to gigs and actually haven't had any trouble with that but I know some girls do get a hard time for not following all the girly trends and being 'different'. |

There was a time long ago that the pit and the dancefloor (at least in Philly) was a fun place to be. People kept their elbows down and did less violent dances like the "L.B. Strut" and the "Circle". Now, it has become a testosterone driven, elbow throwing fist fight. Girls did much better with the old dances. I would encourage girls to get on the dancefloor, but I would caution them to realize that stagediving gives the opportunistic young gentlemen an opportunity to put a hand where it isn't necessarily wanted.
Keep your f*%#ing elbows DOWN!!! |

| I think the pit is an equal opportunity experience... that's why I said it is a "non- issue" for me. |

To be honest with you, all of the shows I've been to I've never seen girls in the pit. I've been everywhere from Cincinatti, Columbus, Philly, Baltimore etc..
Its too rough these days. I don't go in there any more. The most fun I've ever had at a show is when everyone was doing the pogo, non-violent bouncing around! The girl I was seeing at the time went to a show with me, she fell out of her bra doing the pogo! LOL |

My city is notorious for having the most violent pits and inventing violent dance moves. The pit was a men's club. It never stopped me. It took years and years to break down the barriers, but now the pits are full of women and younger kids and people generally make room for one another. At the typical show there is a mix between hard dancing and older styles, even circle pits and pogoing.
I'm OK with hard dancing, as long as there are no moves that are designed to hurt people and as long as people don't act like it’s the UFC. If there is enough space for people to do moves without taking other people out it is cool. But the pit is for everybody.
I still see a tremendous intolerance toward women being in the pit, though. Not just in certain parts of my local scene, but in every city I go to across the country. There is still violence toward these women as well. It’s just insane and kinda reminds me of the Taliban, to be honest.
Skackeruprising, I’m sure you were amused, but how embarrassing for your girl! Poor girl needed a better choice in shirts, I guess.
And I have to agree with PearlsB4Swine about stage diving. Everybody gets felt up while stage diving, not just the ladies. Not really my thing. I'm not actually that fond of having sweaty, shirtless men land on me either, but I'll tolerate it just to see them do double back flips off the stage! That's ill! Almost worth it to try… but …uh… no! |

| i think the pit has taken away from the whole show experience as it should be. i saw strung out recently and there were kids fighting so hard that they couldn't have been paying attention to the music. i asked my boyfirend what he thought of their set when the show was over (he'd been in the pit almost the whole time) and he couldn't even name one song they played. |

| I do think people should have pits at Punks shows, but I also agree with you. There are tons of people who go to shows just to Fk Sht up and don't care about the music. Pretty lame... (they should) go do muay thai or something if all they want to do is fight. Pits should be a fun reaction to the music! |

| I'v always been in any pit I can get into and It never really distracts me from the music, It enhances it. As to girls, its the same as anyone, I you can handle it then get in and beat someone. |
