The Vandals are not 'new'. They were founded in 1980 and released their 1st full length in 1982.

No Punk is not dying. Can't wait until the trend dies, though.

If you have friends who listen to avril and good charlotte, you might want to educate them that they are not punks. They are only taking part in a big business trend that tries to steal the look and sounds (horribly, by the way) to market off as rebellion to be sold at hot topic. They were not even punk to start with, all that happened was a record label grabbed a bunch of guys, gave them fake peircings, spiked their hair, and wrote a bunch of market researched sure hit songs for them. And trust me, if someone wore a good charlotte shirt to a real punk show, they would get smacked around.

And no, punk is not dead, there are still those who believe in what the 77 and 82 classes fought for.

i have an idea:

maybe its better not to lecture someone on what they are or arent ... they want to listen to good charlotte and avril - good for them ... u dont like said bands - good for u ....

but does it really matter whether someone likes good charlotte?? in all honesty - does it matter?? no .... does it matter whether they consider good charlotte to be punk??? no .... so whats the point in making a big deal out of something that doesnt matter??? there is no point ... its just something that certain individuals like to do in order to make themselves look good....

i would hate to think that someone would get "smacked around" for wearing the t-shirt of a band they supprt .... even if it is good charlotte at a "real" punk show .... dont u even find it a little uncalled for?? isnt it a little shallow and conceited that someone would inflict violence on someone else just because they liked a band that wasnt "real punk" ??? whats is that going to achieve???

when something is labelled punk it is not done so to make u angry or vengeful at the bands ... it is not done so to create arguments amongst fans of different bands ... its not done to make u feel that u have the right to be as violent and arrogant as u please to someone who needs "educating" ... marketers label something as punk to target an audience who may find it interesting ...

it really shocks me how arrogant "punks" are today ... whatever happened to embracing individuality ... not worrying about what other people said or did .... what happened to common courtesy and decency??

so ive decided that the next time i see a person wearing a good charlotte shirt at a "real" punk show that instead of "smacking them around" like u would ... i will introduce myself and talk to them ... because i know there is more to a person than their fondness for certain bands ...

it really pisses me off sometimes ...

I wouldn't smack anyone around, but others surely would. I do embrace individuality, but when my way of life is stolen and mocked by heartless corporations, I get pissed off like anyone else would. Punk music is not a fashion trend, it gives hope to the kids who have nothing and are pissed off at the world and tells them that they are not alone and that they are not wrong to think the way they do. It wasn't made so that rich white kids could walk around suburbia with black nail polish, spikey hair, and a GC t-shirt so they can spend the whole day talking about how their dad doesn't like the way they dress. Thank you hot topic

but even so .... what does it matter what somebody else says or does to u?? if all u worry about is how annoying it is that corporations steal the idea of punk than u really dont have much to worry about???
yeah its a trend - as with all trends it will die ...

the 80's were disco, 90's were nu metal and grunge, the 00's are r'n'b and hip hop. Lets hope that the 10's will be punk...

no?

if we had that, we'd lose our individuality and therefore our very nature. luckily, very few trendies have the gull to call themselves punk, so they branch off to "emo" or "hardcore" or some shit like that, were safe

have you noticed punk is the only genre that people actually get excluded for the bands they listen to? once i'd love to hear some big redneck yell "Garth aint country, bitch!"
