Good Charlotte are crap. End of story. I don't know if they ever claimed to be punk and I don't care but they are just crap.

Why is everyone ALWAYS going on about MTV?

Who gives a shit?? And why if they play something punk and all the fans of that band suddenly hate them?

I know MTV is mainstream/commerical or whatever, but a lot of bands end up mainstream in the end and that's just what happens. I kinda respect the ones that don't, in a way, but you shouldn't really have to care if your favourite band goes mainstream. Ultimately it's about the music and even though I usually object a bit to mainstream [pop] artists, if a band gets picked up by a major label it must mean they're pretty talented...

All this MTV shit, it's kind of stupid, really... Why the hell would you hate a band just 'cos they "sold out" and went on MTV?

This shit is just old hat. It always just comes down to the same old shit about whether or not something is 'punk' enough or whether or not something is 'poser'. This is just another means for ignorant twats to try and demean the whole thing by trying to portray punk rock as some image that is just there to enforce fads and divide every little thing into what is considered 'in' or 'out'.

Punk used to just be itself. Just punk. No restrictions. Of course, somehow funny, seeing as that's what it meant to many of us. It was always just about musically expressing yourself entirely without any regard for outsider views towards what you did. It was something really great.

As you can see here, like all really great things, it eventually fizzled out, died, and turned to shit. This is what we have as a result.

good charlotte never claimed to be punk. They have their own style and even though i dont listen to them, i still respect them. arguing if good charlotte is punk is like arguing about the offspring being metal.

Mainstream success isnt a bad thing, IMO, as long as you dont sign to a major label and your music comes from your true heart and mind.
